“If you are depressed, you are living in the past. If you are anxious, you are living in the future. If you are at peace, you are living in the present.”
It is so easy to be upset that some things are already over. That you missed opportunities, that time has gone by so fast, that things have changed from a year ago. It is so easy to look on the past and be sad that it is over. No more high school football games, no more high school friends, no more high school memories.
It is so easy to look to the future anxiously knowing that ONE DAY these things will happen. One day I will be happy, one day I will graduate, one day I will be in college, one day I will have a mission call, one day I will be on a mission, one day I will be a wife and a mother, these are all GREAT things to be excited and they are great goals to have to look forward to, to work towards. I actually encourage this sometimes. It is great to have a bigger picture in mind.
But is it even better to live and enjoy the present. Don’t waste the present time wishing things were like they were before. Don’t waste the present time wishing if it was only Friday, summer, Christmas etc. Stop breathe, look around and realize that what you have now you didn’t have it exactly this way before and it won’t ever be the same again. Enjoy the time you have suffering through finals. Enjoy the time you have working at the minimum wage job. Enjoy the friends you have now. Enjoy the time you have loving your family or finding yourself. Whatever you might be doing right now.
Write it down so you can remember it.
Just love it. Because one day you’ll be wishing you could have this day back. These are the days you’ve been looking forward to. Here is now is a special day and it is your day make it your day and love it.
